My theme this year is "Y-Not", partnered with International President Nick Prillaman's theme of "Be Optimist Strong, Be the Difference." Y-Not!

Governor Tony Edge

This 2017-2018 year should prove to be an exciting and eventful year for us all. Our team of District Leaders has prepared for a great follow-up year to Governor Mac’s Driving Optimism Forward, by continuing to increase service in our communities.

Central Ontario District has a long and storied history of service dating back to the mid eighties when it evolved from the District of Eastern Ontario. A lot has changed over the past 33 years but our fundamental message remains the same, “By providing hope and positive vision, Optimists bring out the best in youth, our communities and ourselves. I applaud each and every Optimist throughout the District as we work tireless hours in our Clubs to fulfill this mission.

I encourage each and every Club to commit to spreading our enthusiasm for a better world by staging a NOW program in their communities. We have proven that social media and NOW programs are the single most effective way of attracting new members to our Clubs. Y-Not utilize the tools at hand to strengthen our Clubs and our ability to serve our communities. Instead of just asking people to join our Clubs, Y-Not ask if they would like to make our communities better places to live and assist in enriching the lives of our youth. Who could possibly answer no.

2018 will also be an exciting year as we welcome over a thousand Optimists from around the World to the 100th annual Optimist International Convention to be held in our Nation’s Capital, Ottawa. Mark your calendars for July 8th to 10th and experience a truly invigorating experience. What a great opportunity, all less than a day’s drive from anywhere in our District. Y-Not bring the family and take in the Capital Region Tourism and all it has to offer. Training sessions are offered for all aspects of running a Club, as well as leadership opportunities at District and International levels. Not to mention the interaction with Clubs from all over North America, the Caribbean, and the World. I’m a firm believer that we learn more from interactions with other Clubs, getting new ideas for projects and fundraising. Sharing of ideas that we take back to our own Clubs as well as the friendships we make.

I am looking forward to seeing everyone at our District Conferences to share your own projects and fundraising ideas as well as representing your Clubs at Board meetings. Don’t forget, you have a voice in policies and the direction of the District. Y-Not!
